Welcome back from Spring Break! The next 30 days of school will be busy! Due to Spring Break, practice records from the last 2 weeks are optional / for extra credit.

May 1 – Mary Poppins! At the Fox Theater in Atlanta.

May 8 – Carowinds Trip – 7th / 8th grade students (Saturday) Space is limited!

May 13 – Spring Band Concert – for 6th, (6:00) 7th, 8th grade, (7:00pm)

Concert Festival

Congratulations to our 7th/8th graders who participated in Large Group Performance Evaluations (aka Concert Festival).

The scores go from 1-5, with 1 being the best (superior), 2 Excellent, 3 Good, etc.

We made a 1, 1, 2, 1 from the four judges, giving us an overall Superior rating.
We are very proud of you! Thank you for your hard work, coming to extra rehearsals, and time you give for our band program!

Festival Band

Students participating in festival band will perform on Wednesday, March 10. We will leave around 9am, and return around 12:15pm.

Students will wear black pants (pants or skirts for girls) black shoes, and the 2009-2010 White Collared Band Shirt.

6th Grade Band members will have a concert (during the school day) on March 12. We will perform for the visiting 5th grade students and teachers.

Greenbrier Middle School Band

Welcome back band students!

Please see our website gmsband.net for the handbook, announcements, and updates.

Below are some tentative dates for the 2009-2010 school year.

Football games are optional for 7^th or 8^th graders. Students who wish to participate will go home after school and return by 5:00 to the high school stadium. We perform in the stands during the game. You have halftime and 3^rd quarter off to visit the concession stand, visit with friends, and enjoy the game. (If you play in the band, there is no charge to attend the game.) Football games usually end by 6:30.

Sept 14 – Football Game (Monday)

Sept 22 – Football Game (Tuesday)

Sept 29 – Football Game (Tuesday)

Oct 6 – High school / 8^th grade band night. Held after the middle school game.

Nov 20 – Radio City Christmas, at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Open to 6^th, 7^th, or 8^th grade.

December 5 – District / Allstate Auditions (Saturday) optional for 7^th or 8^th graders

December 7 – Band Christmas – for 6^th, 7^th, 8^th grade. Concert starts @ 6pm

December 10-12 – University of Georgia Honor Band. 8^th grade students involved TBA

January / February

We will have several after school rehearsals to prepare for concert festival.

March 11/12 – Performance Evaluations – 7^th/8^th grade will perform on 1 of these days.

Exact date/time TBA by festival host.

April 30 – Mary Poppins! At the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Open to 6^th, 7^th, or 8^th grade.

May 13 – Spring Band Concert – for 6^th, 7^th, 8^th grade. Concert starts @ 6pm

May 15 – Carowinds Trip – 7^th / 8^th grade students involved TBA (Saturday)

I hope you had a wonderful summer. I’m excited about the 2009-2010 school year, and I can’t wait to get started.

Our final band concert of the year is next Thursday. Students should report at 6:45. Concert starts at 7:00.
Dress – green band shirt and black pants / shoes.

Thomas Newton, Percussionist

Congratulations to my student, Thomas Newton. He won the young artist competition to perform with the Augusta Symphony. He performed Ney Rosauro’s Marimba Concerto #1.

Spring Concert

Our spring concert will be May 14th.
Instead of splitting up the 6th grade band/chorus, etc. the format will be:
6:00 – chorus concert.
7:00 – 6th, 7th, 8th grade band concert.

The chorus will try to finish by 6:45. Band students should report at 6:45. The concert will start at close to 7:00 as possible, and we should finish by 7:35. Thank you for your support!
