Band Rehearsal Concerts
Thu, Feb 28 2008 07:53
Tuesday the 8th grade band practiced after school, followed by a dress rehearsal/run-thru concert. It went pretty well, although we still have much work to do. Thank you to all who participated.
This afternoon the 7th grade had their practice/pizza party/concert. As I mentioned at the concert, we have a large group of students that are doing well, but we also have many who are not doing their part. I need your help. Please encourage your child to practice. We have 2 weeks to fix many problems.
If I may suggest:
1. Encourage your child to setup a regular practice routine.
2. Ask your child to play all 3 concert pieces for you. How does it sound? Do you feel they are ready to perform?
Some students are very talented, and *could* prepare the music, but are not ready due to classroom behavior, or regular participation and practice. As I mentioned at the concert, practice is not *always* fun. Sometimes it is hard work.
On Friday some students will receive a permission form. Students who do not receive one will need to "pass off" the music in order to attend. They will have 1 week to pass off the music. If they complete the pass-offs (able to play all 3 pieces) then they will also receive a permission form. If they fail to pass off the music, they will not participate in the festival on March 11. Please practice, practice! :) Thank you for encouraging your child and for your support.

Summer Music Camps
Mon, Feb 25 2008 07:29
Summer?! Its only February. However, I've already received some information about a summer music camp. Check out www.encoremusiccamps.com. I don't think I've ever had a student attend who didn't really enjoy the camp. As we get closer to summer, I'll post more camp info... but it isn't too early to start thinking about it... (By the way, most have an early registration discount, which ends around mid-May.)

Spelling Bee

For the 2nd year in a row, a band student has won the school spelling bee. (And last year, the county champion too!) Congrats to Cameron, who won last Wednesday. Good luck as he goes on to compete in the county spelling bee.
Great job!

Allstate Band
Tue, Jan 22 2008 07:03
A very special congratulations goes to Nathan for making Allstate band! Hooray! Not only did he make the band, but he made it as a 7th grader. Making Allstate is very difficult because he had to compete against other 7th and 8th graders from across the State of Georgia.
